What is CrossFit®?

CrossFit® is a program developed to improve fitness through constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. CrossFit® is a core strength and conditioning program that does not specialise in a single domain, but attempts to improve and enhance physical competence the 10 different fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy.

At North Engine CrossFit we want to revisit our roots through functional and natural movements. We design the programming to be fresh and fun whilst keeping it goal oriented.

Foundations Course

In the Foundations course we go through the basic movements and techniques to move safely and efficiently during CrossFit® workouts. The course comprises of three 1.5 hour sessions. During these classes we work on technique drills and end with a workout. Once the Foundations Course is completed you may attend the classes (See our schedule).

The course fee is 250 € and includes 1 month of training in addition to the course itself. We accept most payment methods including credit cards as well as ePassi, Edenred, Smartum and Eazybreak service vouchers.

CrossFit® is designed for everyone regardless of age or sports background. In CrossFit® you will learn skills such as weightlifting and gymnastics movements. Welcome!

Groups

Planning a Bachelor or Hen Party? Are you looking for a group activity with your colleagues at work?

At North Engine we can organise a workout for your group no matter what size and fitness level. CrossFit works perfectly as a group bonding activity and there are no special requirements in terms of health or fitness levels to attend. Our coaches will provide all the necessary knowledge and equipment and guide the group from start to finish.

Classes are usually 1 hour long and are held at North Engine Tehtaankatu 27-29.

Charlie Hodge

Charlie Hodge is one of the co-founders and is working as a head coach at North Engine CrossFit. Before founding his own box, Charlie was working as a full-time coach at CrossFit Basement for over two years. He first started CrossFit® in his home country, England, in July 2012.

Charlie’s true passion lies in sport and coaching, he has been playing team sports throughout his life and has coaching qualifications in Football and Cricket. Charlie has a great ability to connect and inspire people, he is definitely a people’s person. He has great attention to detail and strongly believes in quality movement.

Joni Thessman

Joni Thessman is one of the founders and coaches in North Engine CrossFit®. Before CrossFit he tried several different sports, but none of felt right for him. After starting CrossFit in 2013, Joni has been hooked since and training has become more than a hobby – a lifestyle and passion. North Engine is like a second home to him and he can be found there almost around the clock.

As a coach Joni drills into details and is always ready to help. He can be really demanding, but at the same time highly supportive. A lot of bad jokes are always included in his classes. In the complexity of CrossFit training, drilling into Olympic Weightlifting techniques has been his passion.

Michi Stoll

I did different sports like football, judo, DH biking and competitive pistol shooting but when I tried CrossFit® in 2012 in Stockholm I was hooked for good.
Being a service minded Swiss guy with mentoring personality and dedication to help people it did not take me a long time to figure out that coaching was exactly my thing and got the opportunity to develop my skills in various CrossFit® boxes in Helsinki.
I get excited about every new day I can improve peoples fitness build strength raise confidents and change life quality for the better when I train individuals on how to be the best version of themselves while having fun at the same time.”

  • I used to go to a regular gym for my workouts and it wasn't anywhere near the effectiveness of CrossFit at NECF. I don't want to sound a like a twerp on QVC but I really do feel a lot stronger overall after going at it for just two months. It's been challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Thank you guys!

  • Who is CrossFit® for?

    Everyone! CrossFit® is a fully scalable fitness training program. This means all movements are suit to fit each athletes differences and/or restrictions. Our coaches have extensive experience in working with athletes in an individual level to ultimately improve their fitness levels.

  • Can I try before I buy?

    Yes of course. You are very welcome to come try out our classes. Just send us a message through info@enginecf.fi or the contact form above. You can also send us a message through our Facebook page.

  • Do I have to participate in the foundations course / Onramp?

    There are two options:

    No. If you have participated in a onramp or beginners course at an official CrossFit® affiliate, you can start training at NECF Today!

    Yes. If you have never trained CrossFit® at an official affiliate it is important to learn the basics of efficient functional movement and safety in North Engine CrossFit’s Foundation Course. In the course you will learn the basic movements and how to perform them safely. Plus its great fun!

  • How often should I train?

    2-3 times a week: If you don’t have a fitness background and recently started to train CrossFit®. If you train 3 times a week, you will begin to see big changes in your fitness already in two months!

    4-5 times a week: If you have trained CrossFit® or other sports actively for 6 months or longer.

    6 times a week: You are a seasoned athlete and you want to train for a competition.

  • Is CrossFit® dangerous?

     No. We make sure all of our athletes know how to move safely and operate heavy lifts only without compromising safety. Safety in training is our first priority and will intervene if we spot dangerous situations. Like any sport and activity there are risks involved but ensuring all athletes move well we can mitigate those risks. We also have a First Aid kit ready for most situations.

  • Can I pay my membership with sport vouchers?

    Yes. We accept most of the sport vouchers provided in Finland. These include: Smartum, ePassi, Eazybreak and Edenred vouchers.

  • What can I use to pay my Foundations Course?

     With almost everything! The system accepts credit cards and bank transfers. You can also pay with Sports Vouchers at the start of the course at our box. Just let us know if you would like to pay with vouchers when booking your spot to the course.

  • What do I need with me to the Foundations Course?

    All you need is yourself a pair of sneakers, gym clothes and a water bottle and we will take care of the rest.

  • I have trained CrossFit® at another affiliate, can I start training at North Engine CrossFit?

    Yes. If you have previously trained at an official CrossFit® affiliate you can jump on board right away. Just send us a message to info@enginecf.fi and we will get you started!

  • have trained CrossFit® before, but it was a long time ago and I cannot remember anything. Do I have to participate in the Foundations Course?

    Maybe. We can schedule a review class at a time that suits you and determine your level and if the Foundations Course is required.

Payment Policy

Bills are sent to the registered email address. We accept most payment methods such as credit cards as well as Edenred, Smartum, Eazybreak and ePassi service vouchers.

Upon choosing your subscription, a bill will be sent which will send a reminder to the registered email address.

North Engine CrossFit (Rxd Sports Oy) has a 14 day grace period. We hold the rights to changes in our pricing.

If you wish to cancel your membership or change the billing date, don’t hesitate to contact us at info@enginecf.fi. Membership cancellation occurs one month in advance. If a bill has been sent before cancellation, the member is required to complete the payment.

Bills must be paid latest on the due date. A reminder will be sent 7 days after the due date.

Service Vouchers

Once you have recieved a bill, contact a coach at the box and we will take care of the voucher payment and settle the bill.
